The National Library  of Vanuatu acts as a Reference Library.

Borrowing and individual loans are not encouraged as long as you are physically doing your research inside the library premises.

Here are some of the Services the National Library of Vanuatu offers.

Reference Services:

- Provide access to reference materials such as History Books, Dictionaries, Encyclopedias, World Books, Directories and Atlases.

-Assist patrons how to locate information using the Library Catalogue Computer

-How to fill up the reference request slip  for an item

-How to reference a Book, Magazine, Newspaper etc...

Circulation Services:

-Provide access in borrowing library materials within the library premises during working hours

-Provide email/Call reservation of interested topic of research

Research Support:

-Provide access to various collections, such as books, thesis, journals, Magazine, Newspapers (1980s - 2025),  to help researchers, scholars, and students with academic work.

-Offer reference services and specialized collections focused on local history, law, culture, and language.

-Cataloguing in Publication (CIP) and International Standard Book Number (ISBN) and Interlibrary Loans:- 

-The National Library now offers these services to all publishers in Vanuatu ensuring local materials get on the global registry.

-Provides short-term loans with special agreements between the two parties

The VCAP Project has two parts. VCAP 1 started in 2014 and ended in 2018. VCAP 2 Project is worth around $12.5 million USD or about 1.5 billion Vatu in total. This project is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Least Developed Country Fund (LDCF). VCAP 2 will help to strengthen government capacity to deliver services to project sites throughout Vanuatu.

VCAP 2 differs from VCAP 1 in that much of its funding from the GEF focuses on supporting environmental resource protection and bio-diversity which is the variety of living organisms in Vanuatu. This entails the survey and establishment of terrestrial and marine protected areas, the registration of these protected areas, and implementing resource management plans with communities. Activities to protect the environment against land degradation are also being supported through the project.

This project supports solar home systems (SHS), micro and mini grids in rural areas, strengthen institutions, and increase business opportunities for the private sector for the supply decentralized electricity services. This project has transitioned from “plug and play” systems to more advanced SHS that require technical support, micro grids and mini grids where the latter can be supported on economic or piloting benefits.

The project includes three components, which includes provision of solar home systems and micro grids in rural areas of Vanuatu, Construction of mini grids in rural areas of Vanuatu and Technical Assistance and Project management.

Established in 2018, the National Green Energy Fund is a national financing vehicle designed to assist the Government to achieve its National Energy Roadmap targets through both public and private investment in technology and infrastructure across Vanuatu.

The National Green Energy Fund aims to boost households and public institutions’ energy access, while also providing a pathway for local businesses and industries to invest in clean, climate - resilient energy that meets their economic needs, creating transformative opportunities for rural communities.
The National Green Energy Fund is helping to channel finance toward clean energy technologies and infrastructure on the remote islands.

 The operations and administration of the Fund is overseen by a Board that is represented by the Government and civil society and promotes gender inclusion to enable greater participation of women and other vulnerable groups in clean energy development in Vanuatu.

The National Green Energy Fund was established by the Government of Vanuatu under the Department of Energy, with funding and technical support from the Global Green Growth Institute.
