The operations of the National Archives of Vanuatu are primarily governed by the Archives Act [Cap 216], enacted to ensure the proper custody and preservation of public archives in Vanuatu. This legislation outlines the establishment of the National Archives, the role of the Archivist, and the procedures for managing public records.
Additionally, the National Policy on Records and Information Management emphasizes that records must be disposed of in accordance with the National Archives Act 13 of 1992, highlighting the importance of proper records management and disposal procedures.
These legislative frameworks collectively ensure that the National Archives effectively preserves Vanuatu's documentary heritage and manages public records in compliance with established laws and policies.
